Pressure differences, winds and seasons — the basics every aspirant should know.
The monsoon is a seasonal reversal of winds. In summer, the land heats faster than the ocean, creating low pressure over the subcontinent that draws in moist winds from the Indian Ocean.
The south-west monsoon brings most of India's annual rainfall between June and September. The retreating monsoon later brings rain to parts of the south-east coast.
